My hope is my story on how I became a female natural body builder champion is one to help encourage others who have serious injuries that they can overcome obstacles to achieve their dreams.

In 1998, I was in a very serious motorcycle accident that resulted breaking of my femur in eight places.   The accident occurred in Mexico, my native country, during a Motor Cross Race competition where I fell six meters to the ground.  I was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery prior to returning to the United States for an additional eight more surgeries.   The doctor had to place a pin in my leg and indicated that my fitness and bodybuilding career was over as one leg would be significantly shorter than the other.

The doctors recommended that I seek professional rehab to propel recovery   I decided to take charge of my recovery in a different direction.  I essentially made my own rehab through weight lifting and in one year I was Miss Texas.   No it wasn't a beauty contest, but a natural body building contest.   The pin in my leg did make weight lifting uncomfortable, especially when I did squats or lunges.   I decided to approach the doctor and asked if the pin could be removed.   Well, they did and when they took ex-rays they found that my  leg had recovered well.  The purpose of the pin was to keep the leg straight.  Even after the pin was removed, the leg remained straight on its' own.

My father was the one who suggested weight lifting when I was younger.  I found weight lifting boosted my self-esteem and added the needed bulk on my skinny frame.    I  found that weight lifting and cardiovascular exercises did more than boost self-image, but it also helped build stronger bones and a healthier heart.
